The Creation of
Paper Crane Counseling…
An old folktale promises a wish for anyone who can fold a thousand paper cranes. Often seen as an offering for health and prosperity, these birds have come to represent so much more. Nowadays, the paper wings symbolize resiliency, their beaks point towards a forward path, and their tails cut through the clutter of everyday life. Strung together with thread and beads, the tiny cranes create a sense of connection and remind us that we are never alone. No matter who colored the paper, who made the final fold, or who strung them together, each person had the same wish: to grow.
When creating Paper Crane Counseling, I took this to heart. I used paper that had been designed by my clients. Some pages were scribbled over in frustration, others in quiet reflection, yet each had a common thread, a safe place for contemplation and processing. The thousand birds that decorate the office are a sign of this and so much more. For me, they show where I came from and how far I have gone. They show the time and effort I am willing to put into not only myself but those who look to me for care. Each fold was a labor of love and hope, hope that my wish of making a space for the healing and growth of clinicians and clients alike could flourish. I hope you join me on this journey as I wish to join you on yours.
